How Long Does It Take To Be Able To Surf Pipeline Hawaii?

It’s not how long but how well. The drop at Pipe is steep and takes some serious bigger wave practice. It also takes a certain mental confidence for you to commit on a wave there, plus you need to be able to paddle like crazy. I would say I haven’t seen anyone in the water (at least during the winter) with less then maybe 7 years of serious experience. About a month or so back I went out on a west swell day when the long right broke. Even then, the surfers in the water were well experienced. I think when you feel you can handle it and not get killed, go out. After your first wave (or wipeout) you will know the score.
