Man teaches alpaca to surf

April 11th, 2010

It’s a bit like a camel and a bit like a llama, so you wouldn’t think an alpaca would be able to surf. A man in Peru has tried teaching it anyway. Follow us on twitter at twitter.com

Product Description

Fed up with suburban teenage life, Jaimal Yogis ran off to Hawaii with little more than a copy of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha and enough cash for a surfboard. His journey is a coming-of-age saga that takes him from communes to monasteries and the icy New York shore. Equal parts spiritual memoir and surfer’s tale, this is a chronicle of finding meditative focus in the barrel of a wave and eternal truth in the great salty blue.

XCEL Surf Boots Reviews – 2010

April 9th, 2010

Hi Again,

Well the winter season is upon us and all the winter gear is hitting the shops. Sid’s Surf Shack is no different and would like to take a look at the various boots that are about and give reviews on what they are like and how they will benefit you in the water.

XCEL 5mm Infiniti Drylock Bamboo Boots
XCEL 5mm Infiniti Tek Bamboo Lined Boots
XCEL 7mm Infiniti Tek Boots Round Toe

All of XCEL’s boots are seriously high quality products and will all do the job depending on what your after.

XCEL 5mm Infiniti Drylock Bamboo Boots

This season’s Infiniti Drylock Boots are just as good as last, even better. However, within the design this season, XCEL have incorporated Bamboo Recycled products to make sure they are as eco friendly to the environment as possible. The Bamboo lined boots track pockets of air which in turn create better insulation to you feet letting you stay out that extra bit longer. As with all XCEL’s Surf Boots, they run a decent way up the leg making for a good overlap with your wetsuit and with the Drylock cuff technology at the top of the boot, its a miracle if any water finds its way in! A great winter boot by our reckoning.

XCEL 5mm Infiniti Tek Boots

The Infiniti Tek boots have been styled differently this season with new colours, but again, this is the only visual difference, with the same high quality boot as last year but also with the bamboo lining, with XCEL not compromising on quality or style. They realise the importance of warmth. The only major difference here from the Infinti Drylock Boots is that they straight seal at the top rather that the drylock cuff. A great boot that we have been wearing for years.

XCEL 7mm Infinti Tek Round Toe Boot

If 5mm just isn’t good enough for you then try the 7mm. You can just about use these 7mm Inifniti Tek boots anywhere giving you the maximum protection from the elements. Like the Infiniti Tek and Drylock’s, they are Bamboo Lined for ultra warmth, but with that extra 2mm, you should have no problems on a long session. An arch strap (As with all XCEL’s boots) makes them easy to get off on those freezing days and they also run high up the leg creating a good overlap with your Wetsuit.

No matter what your looking for this winter, the XCEL’s range will do exactly what you want, and more. Just take your time to choose which is best for you and you wont be dissapointed.

XCEL Surf Hoods Review – 2010

April 9th, 2010

Hi,

Today we are going to run through what Surf Hoods we have that will have you kitted out for the coming winter. As we have mentioned before XCEL have been producing great wetsuits and related products for years and the Surf Hoods are no different. We have 4 hoods to choose from this winter and they are:

XCEL2mm Thermobarrier Bamboo Lined Hood, XCEL 2mm Thermobarrier Hood, XCEL 2mm Cap with peak and the XCEL Xcelerator Cap.

The XCEL Xcelerator Cap is great hood more fitting to be worn in the early days of winter. Its 0.5mm titanium glideskin with a strap the fits under the chin. The cap is ultra stretchy and comes in all sizes.

For something a little warmer, is the XCEL 2mm Cap with Peak. This is similar to the Xcelerator cap although this has a small peak on top to help flush water away from the face. Its 2mm thick so will keep the elements at bay. There is also an arch strap that comes under the chin to provide a great fit.

Finally the top Surf Hoods, are the XCEL 2mm Thermobarrier Hood with Neck Dam and XCEL 2mm Bamboo Lined hood. These hoods both have a full neck dam that goes right into the wetsuit to ensure that hardly any water can penetrate into the body. Its 2mm thick and fully covers the cheek area giving a great seal. There is a pull string cord on the side ensuring that you can alter the tightness of the hood to whatever you like. The XCEL 2mm Thermobarrier hood also comes with a peak. The Bamboo Lined hood is a great option, exactly the same as the normal thermobarrier, but this season being bamboo lined, trapping pockets of air into the hood making it warmer than ever.

All in all, there is something here for everyone for conditions throughout the winter, with prices on XCEL Surf Hoods very reasonable. For further details on the hoods listed abovee, please visit our Surf Shop. A great investment this winter.
