Rip Curl F Bomb Surf Boots Review

April 13th, 2010

Hi,

Today we are going to be reviewing the Rip Curl 5mm F Bomb Wetsuit Boots…..giving our opinion and not the manufacturers opinion.

Rip Curls F Bombs are out there to rival boots like other 3mm surf boots, being in the same price range as other top of the range 3mm boots from the likes of XCEL. Both boots are top quality but there are a few differences between them which could be the deciding factor in which one you might pick. We have already looked at the other boots so will give a detailed opinion on how good they are.

Rip Curl F Bomb’s are Fireskin lined which is meant to repel the heat coming from your feet back onto the body, so that they keep your feet warmer for longer. The seams are double glued and taped so that no water is going to find its way in that way either…and we must say that they do the job perfectly. Helping this factor is that the boots themselves have a decent length on them and run quite high up the leg, creating a big overlap with your wetsuit, essential on the colder days, as wetsuits do run back up the leg when you sit on your board. There is a big arch strap on the back, at a lower level so that they are easy to pull on and off. We’ve been yanking hard on this and its pretty sturdy!

There are two straps on the boot…one running across the front of the foot and for us, a quality one at the top of the boot that seals around the ankle. Boots always loosen around the ankle over time as the neoprane stretches over time, so having this velcro seal keeps them tight all the time…another barrier to the water!

The soles themselves are really grippy and not like other boots, they have a lot of feeling in them with the rubber being quite soft giving plenty of feeling on your stick. Rip Curl call it the Supersoft sole. It does the job!

All in all we think the F Bomb is a quality boot at a great price.  They also have a Rip Curl F Bomb 7mm Boots that is available if you are looking for something a little warmer and thinking of staying in the water longer!

In summary, they are a great product, flexible, warm and well made to limit the elements and water getting in.  Great value for money means we’d happily sit in the freezing North Sea in them!!

Laird Hamilton has been hailed as the world’s greatest big-wave surfer. His first book, Force of Nature, allows readers a rare glimpse inside the unique philosophy that has created his circumstances, and not the other way around. After all, this is a man whose biological father abandoned him shortly after he was born; whose first job was working on a pig far; who dropped out of school in eleventh grade. And then the career decision: surfer. Though earning enough to pay the rent as any kind of surfer is next to impossible, Hamilton has ended up in the place we all desire to be: doing exactly what he loves, becoming the world’s best in the process, making a great living, being surrounded by nature and family, radiating peak health and fitness, and succeeding by any definition of the word.
How did he get there? And more importantly, how can the rest of us join him?
Force of Nature is a detailed map to that destination, with Laird Hamilton as the reader’s guide. It’s not about chasing trophies or accolades or cash. It’s about quality over quantitysoul and being true to your physical, mental, and spiritual roots. What’s the difference between a surfing pack and a regular bag pack?

April 11th, 2010

I’m looking for a surfing pack but I don’t know what defines a “surf” pack from a skate bag from a regular back pack.
